An Overview of Metadata

This guide explains what metadata fields are and how they are used in COS Business Engine.

Last updated: 2025-05-08

Applies to: All Business Engine Users

Solution Overview

Metadata are additional fields that can be created and connect to for example a service in COS Business Engine. If there is information that is desired in the administration portal or the customer portal, but does not exist in the standard version, you can create a metadata field.

Metadata fields are customizable data points linked to objects, services, and orders, network elements, etc. allowing users to capture extra information not covered by default fields.

It is possible to choose if the metadata should be shown for the service providers or not and also possible to limit to one service provider.

Types of Metadata Fields

Service Metadata:
Used to collect additional customer details during the ordering process.

Object Metadata:
Includes information like equipment type, installation date, or location details.

Order Metadata:
Captures information related to service provisioning and customization.

When creating a metadata field, it is possible to choose whether the field should be a:

  • Checkbox
  • Dropdown list (with options you define)
  • Text area (a larger text field for free text)
  • Textbox (for example email address)

Built-in validations can be applied to created metadata fields, ensuring data accuracy by enforcing specific formats, such as email validation or date validation.
